Questions and Answers

Q: What does NLPC believe?

A: We believe in the Bible, the 66 books which contain God's Word which make up the Old Testament and New Testament.

Q: What do we believe regarding Scripture?

A: The Bible, uniquely and fully inspired by the Holy Spirit, is the supreme and final authority on all matters on which it speaks.

Q: What do we believe about God?

A: We believe in one God, the sovereign Creator and Sustainer of all things, infinitely perfect and eternally existing in three Persons: Father, Son, and Holy Spirit.

Q: What do we believe about Jesus Christ?

A:  Jesus Christ is the living Word, became flesh through miraculous conception by the Holy Spirit and virgin birth; Died on the cross as a sacrifice for our sins according to the Scriptures; On the third day rose bodily from the dead, ascended into heaven, where, at the right hand of the Majesty on High, is now our High Priest and Mediator.

Q: What do we believe about the Holy Spirit?

A: The Holy Spirit has come to glorify Christ and to apply the saving work of Christ to our hearts; Convicts us of sin and draws us to the Savior; Indwelling our hearts, gives new life to us, empowers and imparts gifts to us for service; Instructs and guides us into all truth, and seals us for the day of redemption.

Q: How does a person have their sins forgiven?

A: A person has their sins forgiven by accepting Jesus Christ as their personal Lord and Savior. We are saved from our sins because Jesus Christ lived a sinless life and died on the cross to pay the penalty for our sin, which was separation from God throughout eternity.

Q: What is the Christian Church?

A: The Christian Church is made up of all people who have accepted Jesus Christ as their personal Lord and Savior.

Q: What is the meaning of Baptism?

A:  Infant baptism is given to children of Christian parents and declares God's love for the child before he/she is old enough to understand God. Water is used to signify(by sprinkling or immersion) The Holy Spirit is present and is given to the child for the purpose of bringing the child to accept Jesus Christ as personal Lord and Savior during their life. Adult baptism is given when a person comes to faith in Jesus as Lord and Savior, during their adult life and is a witness to their faith in Jesus Christ as Lord and Savior. Baptism is given once, signifying God's love never needs reapplied.

Q: What is Communion/Lord's Supper?

A: Communion/Lord's Supper was given by Jesus to the disciples the night before he was arrested.  The bread and juice remind us Jesus’ body was broken and Jesus' blood was shed on the old rugged cross to pay for our sins. The Holy Spirit is present during this time to reassure us of God's love and forgiveness. Infant children who have been baptized and understand the meaning of this meal are able to partake (It is advised the parents and pastor meet before children take their first communion). All others who have accepted Jesus Christ as their personal Lord and Savior are welcome to God's communion table.

Life Issues

Q: Does God's word speak to our current life/cultural issues?

A: Yes, God's word gives us direction for all of life.

Q: What does the Bible say regarding Abortion?

A: The Bible affirms the value and dignity of every human life (Jeremiah 1:15, Psalm 139:15, Luke 1:41).

Q: What does the Bible say about the same-sex lifestyle?

A: Same-sex activity is not in line with how God created the human body. All humans are born with desires and tendencies which are not in accordance with God's will for humanity, due to Adam and Eve's fall in the garden of Eden. Thus all people are to restrain from any lifestyle which is not in accordance with God's Holy Word. God's death on the cross paid for our sin, but does not give us approval to deliberately practice unbiblical behavior (Genesis 1:27, Romans 6:1-7, Romans 1:26-27, 1 Corinthians 6:9, Roman 8:1-4).

Q: What does the Bible say about the Sanctity of Marriage?

A: Marriage is a solemn covenant between a man and a woman, entered into before God, whereby God joins them in a life-long companionship of love for and commitment to each other (Genesis 2:18-21).

Q: Is there more than one way to enter heaven?

A: No, the only way to heaven is by accepting Jesus Christ as personal Lord and Savior (John 14:6).

Q: Do all religions lead to God?

A: No, there is no other way to  receive eternal life than to accept Jesus Christ as Lord and Savior?  God has only given humanity one plan to have their sins forgiven (1 John 2:22-23, 1 John 5:1-5).
