Deacons: a Ministry of Compassion

deacon list

What is a Deacon?

Our Book of Order defines Deacon as follows, "The ministry of deacon as set forth in Scripture is one of compassion, witness, and service, sharing in the redeeming love of Jesus Christ for the poor, the hungry, the sick, the lost, the friendless, the oppressed, those burdened by unjust policies or structures, or anyone in distress. Persons of spiritual character, honest repute, exemplary lives, brotherly and sisterly love, sincere compassion, and sound judgment should be chosen for this ministry." (G-2.0201)

Goal

As we grow as a community of Christ-followers, it is our goal to provide Christian care to those around us. Deacons will assist in overseeing the care of our congregation, sharing God's grace, mercy, and peace. As we move forward with our Congregational Care Ministry let us not forget our mission statement:
"Be Christ-followers who share in Christ's love with the community through our words and actions."
